According to the cross-sectional shape, the seamless steel pipe is divided into two types: round and special-shaped. According to different uses, there are thick-walled seamless steel pipes and thin-walled seamless steel pipes. 1. Structural integrity ensures safety

Seamless carbon steel pipes are formed by rolling the steel billet as a whole, without weld defects, eliminating the risk of welding heat affected zone and stress concentration. Under high pressure (above 25MPa) or high temperature (600℃) conditions, its burst resistance is 50% higher than that of welded pipes, and it is suitable for "zero leakage" scenarios such as long-distance oil and gas pipelines and nuclear power main steam pipelines to ensure the safety of energy and industrial systems.

2. Extremely balanced mechanical properties

The tensile strength of seamless carbon steel pipes reaches 520~620MPa, and the yield strength is ≥345MPa, with both high strength and high toughness (Charpy impact energy ≥120J). In complex stress environments such as deep-sea drilling platforms and bridge piers, its impact resistance and fatigue resistance far exceed those of welded pipes, and its service life is extended by more than 3 times, reducing the maintenance cost of the entire life cycle.

3. Corrosion resistance adapts to extreme environments

Seamless carbon steel pipes can withstand strong corrosive media such as H₂S, CO₂, and Cl⁻ through alloying (such as adding Cr and Mo) and surface treatment (aluminizing and nitriding). In shale gas fields (H₂S content ≥5%), offshore platforms and other environments, its corrosion rate is 90% lower than that of welded pipes, avoiding sulfide stress cracking (SSCC) and pitting, and extending the equipment life to more than 20 years.

4. Dimensional accuracy and processing flexibility

Seamless carbon steel pipes adopt cold drawing/cold rolling process, the outer diameter tolerance can be controlled at ±0.1mm, and the wall thickness uniformity is ≤8%, which meets the high-precision requirements of hydraulic supports (pressure fluctuation ≤±0.5%) and medical devices (inner wall cleanliness ISO Class 5). At the same time, it supports arbitrary length cutting and complex forming (such as bending and reducing pipes), shortening the engineering cycle.

5. Lightweight and efficient transmission

The density of seamless carbon steel pipe is only 7.85g/cm³, which is 80% lighter than square steel, making it easy to transport and hoist at high altitude. Its inner wall roughness Ra≤0.8μm, flow coefficient of more than 0.98, and 15% higher transmission efficiency than welded pipes, suitable for large flow pipeline systems (such as urban water supply trunk pipes, chemical reactor feed pipes).

6. Seismic resistance and creep resistance

Seamless carbon steel pipes perform well in earthquake-prone areas or high-temperature creep conditions. Its elastic modulus is better than that of welded pipes, and its deformation resistance under dynamic load is increased by 40%. In ultra-supercritical units (620℃/28MPa) of thermal power plants, seamless pipes can operate stably for more than 100,000 hours, avoiding the risk of leakage caused by weld creep.

Applications of Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe


1. Oil and natural gas transportation

Seamless carbon steel pipes undertake high-pressure gathering and transportation tasks in onshore/offshore oil and gas fields, and are suitable for deep wells, high-sulfur gas fields and transnational long-distance pipelines (such as the China-Russia East Line). Its weld-free structure avoids leakage risks and can withstand 10~25MPa pressure and -60℃ low temperature to ensure safe energy transportation.

2. Chemical medium transmission

Seamless carbon steel pipes are used to transport highly corrosive media (such as concentrated sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, ammonia water) and high-temperature and high-pressure chemical fluids (such as ethylene cracking gas). Its dense metallographic structure resists hydrogen corrosion and intergranular corrosion, ensuring long-term stable operation of chemical equipment and avoiding the risk of medium penetration.

3. Boiler and thermal system

Seamless carbon steel pipes are the first choice for the main steam pipelines of thermal power plants and the secondary circuit thermal pipes of nuclear power plants. They can withstand 600℃ high temperature, 28MPa high pressure and rapid start-stop thermal stress. Its creep resistance far exceeds that of welded pipes, meeting the harsh working conditions of ultra-supercritical units and extending the life of equipment.

4. Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Seamless carbon steel pipes (cold-drawn process) are used for precision hydraulic supports, engineering machinery and pneumatic actuators, with inner wall roughness ≤0.8μm and pressure fluctuation ≤±0.5%. Its high dimensional accuracy and anti-fatigue properties ensure that industrial automation equipment is responsive and reliable.

5. Mechanical structure support

Seamless carbon steel pipes are key load-bearing components of heavy machinery (such as crane booms and mining hydraulic supports). They use their high strength (yield strength ≥345MPa) and uniform mechanical properties to avoid structural failure caused by stress concentration and adapt to high-load impact under complex working conditions.

6. Geological exploration and drilling

Seamless carbon steel pipes are used for drilling platform risers, downhole casings and drill pipes, and need to withstand deep-sea high pressure (100MPa), formation friction and corrosive drilling fluids. Its high toughness (Charpy impact energy ≥120J) and anti-collapse performance ensure the safety of deep-sea drilling operations.

7. Shipbuilding and marine engineering

Seamless carbon steel pipes are used in ship ballast water systems, offshore platform risers and anchor chain pipelines, and are resistant to seawater corrosion (Cl⁻ concentration 3.5wt%) and high-frequency vibration. Its zero-defect characteristics of welds prevent corrosion cracks from expanding and extend the service life of offshore facilities.

8. Automobiles and rail transit

Seamless carbon steel pipes are used in vehicle chassis frames, steering systems and brake lines, and must be both lightweight (density 7.85g/cm³) and high-strength (tensile strength ≥520MPa).
